Iron Door: make a door only some players can open
Iron Door decides whether a group can open and close the iron doors in your house. Keep it off for visitors and on for staff, and iron doors become locks for staff rooms and VIP areas. Here’s what it does, where it is, and who should get it.

What the Iron Door permission does
Turn Iron Door on for a group, and everyone in it can open and close the iron doors in your house. Turn it off, and those doors won’t open or close for them.
That’s different from regular Minecraft, where an iron door only opens with redstone, like a button or a lever. In Housing, players whose group has Iron Door open iron doors by right-clicking them, the same way they use wooden doors.
Like Wood Door, it’s one switch for the whole group, and it covers every iron door in your house. That’s what makes iron doors useful as locks: keep Iron Door off for visitors and on for staff, and your wooden doors keep working for everyone.
With Iron Door on, players can
- Open and close your iron doors by right-clicking them
- Get into staff rooms, VIP areas, and anywhere else you’ve closed off with iron doors
- Close a door behind them
Iron Door doesn’t let them
- Place or break doors (that’s Build)
- Open wooden doors (that’s Wood Door)
- Open trapdoors or fence gates (those are Wood Trap Door, Iron Trap Door, and Fence Gate)
Where to find Iron Door
Iron Door is the third permission in the editor: page 1, slot 3, as of October 2026, right after Wood Door.
- Open Permissions and Groups. Open the Housing Menu with the Nether Star in your hotbar, then click the paper icon in the middle of the bottom row.
- Open a group’s permissions. Click the group, then the Edit Permissions book at the end of the second row.
- Find Iron Door on page 1. It’s the third permission on the page, or you can click the compass and search for it.
- Check the color. Green means it’s on, and gray means it’s off. Click it to switch.

Who should get Iron Door?
Iron Door can’t change a single block, and it only opens the iron doors already in your house. Who should have it depends on what those doors are for.

Make a door only some players can open
- Use iron doors only where you need a lock. Put one on the way into your staff room or VIP area, and use wooden doors everywhere else.
- Turn Iron Door off for visitors. Do the same for any other group that shouldn’t get through.
- Turn it on for the groups that should. That’s usually staff, plus any rank that’s earned the area.
- Test it. Have someone in each group try the door before you rely on it.
Close every other way in
A locked door only keeps players out if there’s no other way in. Close the room in on every side,
top included, since players with Fly can get
over walls and players with /tp can teleport past them.
Keep buttons, levers, and pressure plates away from the door, too. In regular Minecraft they open iron doors with redstone, so test that the door still stays shut. And close it behind you, since an open door lets anyone through.

What does the Iron Door permission do in Hypixel Housing?
It lets everyone in a group open and close the iron doors in your house. It doesn’t let them place or break doors; that takes the Build permission.
Can you open iron doors by hand in Hypixel Housing?
Yes, if your group has the Iron Door permission. In regular Minecraft, iron doors only open with redstone, but in Housing, players with Iron Door open and close them by right-clicking.
How do I make a door only staff can open?
