Banned while hosting a Free Build? Here’s what to do
If Hypixel terminated your Free Build and banned your account, start here. This guide covers what a termination resets, how long repeat bans can last, and how to keep trolls out of your house until you’re back.

What to do right after a Free Build ban
A ban is frustrating, especially over builds you didn’t make. These five steps come from the Free Build wiki, and they help keep a ban from turning into a longer one.
- Stay calm. Don’t panic, and don’t rush to make a public announcement about the termination on your Free Build’s Discord.
- Avoid escalation. Don’t argue with or threaten anyone who claims they were involved. Trolls feed on anger, and ignoring them is the best response.
- Step away. Take a break from your computer for a few hours. Acting while you’re angry often leads to poor decisions.
- Protect your house. Once you’ve cooled down, ask a trusted leader to set up a temporary kick loop that keeps everyone out until you’re unbanned. It stops unmoderated building on your plot.
- Regain control. When your ban ends, join your house in Safe Mode, turn off the kick loop, and get back to hosting.
Don’t try to get around the ban
Hypixel’s server rules don’t allow punishment evading, and your past bans affect how long future punishments last. Let your trusted leader handle the house until you’re back.
What is Free Build termination?
Termination is what happens when a Free Build isn’t moderated closely enough. Even one small inappropriate build that breaks the Hypixel rules can be enough. When Hypixel terminates a Free Build, the plot is reset and the owner is punished, usually with a 7-day ban for a first offense.
It can come from Hypixel staff or from automated systems, which the Free Build wiki says include AI. Either way, the owner answers for it. Hypixel’s Housing Content Rules make you “solely responsible for all content within your personal Housing plot, including content created by others.”
That’s how hosts end up banned over builds they never saw, and why moderation matters so much in a Free Build.
What resets when your Free Build is terminated
Here’s what the Free Build wiki says changes when a Free Build is terminated, and what stays the same.
- The plot is reset. What was built on it is cleared.
- The theme switches to the Default Theme. It’s the free theme every new house starts with.
- Your visibility stays the same. If the house was Public, as most Free Builds are, it stays Public until you can log in and change it.
- Offline Build stays on. Any group that had it can still build while you’re banned.
Some items can also disappear with a ban, so check your house carefully once you’re back.

The dangerous part: Offline Build
A reset doesn’t lock your house. If it’s still Public and Offline Build is on for any group, those players can keep building while you’re banned, with nobody there to moderate. Trolls can fill your fresh plot with rule-breaking builds, and that can get you banned for longer.

Protect your house with a kick loop
A kick loop is an action you set up in your Free Build so no one can join while you’re banned. The Free Build wiki highly recommends one, because trolls can use your ban to build bad things on your plot, and that can get you banned for longer.
You can’t log in while you’re banned, so ask a trusted leader to set it up for you. It’s worth deciding who that is before you ever need them. The wiki’s Kick Loop page shows a real one in action.
Getting back in with Safe Mode
A kick loop can lock you out too, which is why the Free Build wiki says to come back in Safe Mode. Hypixel added Safe Mode in January 2025 for owners whose own actions get in the way of editing their house. In Safe Mode, no actions run on you, including automatic ones.
- Open My Houses. Run
/home. - Join via Safe Mode. Right-click your house to manage it, then choose to join via Safe Mode. The player list shows a warning while it’s on.
- Turn off the kick loop. Since no actions run on you in Safe Mode, the kick loop won’t affect you while you switch it off.
- Leave Safe Mode. Run
/safemode, or leave and rejoin the house as normal.
Before you reopen
- Check your house for anything that’s missing.
- Pick your theme again if you used a different one.
- Turn Offline Build off for every group.
- Review who can build, and who has staff powers.
- Tell your Discord you’re back.
How long Free Build bans last
A first termination usually comes with a 7-day ban. If you host again and your Free Build is terminated again, each ban is longer than the last. The Free Build wiki lists this order:

Hypixel’s server rules also say your previous bans affect the length of future punishments.
How the order resets
According to the Free Build wiki, the only way to reset this order is to lower your ban level. That takes 180 days (six months) at a Medium ban level, or 365 days (one year) at a High one.
You can check your level in Account Status: open the My Profile menu on Hypixel and click the anvil near the bottom. Levels are Low, Medium, or High, and Hypixel says they go down “over time and through good behavior” without giving exact timeframes.
Think the ban was a mistake?
You can appeal. Link your Minecraft account to your Hypixel Forums account, then submit an appeal through the official form on the forums. An appeal doesn’t protect your house in the meantime, so set up the kick loop either way.
How to prevent termination
Termination comes down to moderation, and even one missed build can be enough. These habits help prevent it.
For owners
- Moderate actively. Check the plot often, not just when someone reports a problem.
- Hire trusted moderators. When you can’t watch the plot alone, bring in trusted community leaders to help.
- Keep Offline Build off. Nobody should be building while nobody is moderating.
- Blacklist the riskiest items. Pistons, sticky pistons, slime blocks, and redstone blocks let players push builds past the plot border, where you may not be able to remove them.
- Plan for a ban before it happens. Decide now which trusted leader would set up your kick loop if you ever need one.

For guests
When you build in someone else’s Free Build, the host answers for everything you place. Steer clear of everything Hypixel’s Housing Content Rules ban:
What the content rules don’t allow
- Slurs, hate speech, discrimination, threats, bullying, or doxing
- Gambling, including fake casino games or player bets
- Giveaways, or rewards for joining a Discord or following someone
- Real-world tragedies, like terrorist attacks, wars, or pandemics
- Political figures, parties, campaigns, or elections
- Adult themes, like drug references, explicit violence, or sexual content
- Copyright violations
- Bots, alt accounts, disallowed mods, or scripts used to manipulate gameplay

Blacklists
Guests who break these rules can be banned from individual Free Builds for good. Many community networks also keep internal blacklists, so a rule breaker banned from one plot can’t just move on to a partner plot. It’s one of the ways hosts protect themselves, since Hypixel holds Free Build owners responsible for everything built on their plots.
