I got banned for hosting a Free Build. What do I do?

If your Free Build got terminated and you got banned, your goal is not to panic. Your goal is containment first, then recovery. This page explains what termination means in Hypixel Housing, what resets, why your house may be set to private, why offline building is still a risk, and how to prevent repeat problems.

Fast plan: contain, cool down, regain control

What to do right now, in order

This is written for the exact moment someone is thinking: "I got banned for hosting a Free Build. What do I do?"

  1. Stay calm. Do not panic or immediately make a public announcement on your Free Build Discord about the termination.
  2. Avoid escalation. Do not argue with or threaten anyone who claims they were involved. Trolls feed on anger, ignoring them is usually the best response.
  3. Step away. Take a break from your computer for a few hours. Being banned can be frustrating, but acting while angry often leads to poor decisions.
  4. Protect your house. After you cool down, ask a trusted leader to set up temporary containment to block access until you are unbanned. This prevents unmoderated building.
  5. Regain control. After your ban ends, join your house in Safe Mode and remove the temporary containment to resume normal activity.
Why this matters: The most common spiral is when the owner is banned and other roles can still build. That is where griefing and repeat punishment risk increases.

What is termination in a Hypixel Housing Free Build?

Termination can happen when a Free Build is not moderated well enough and too many rule-breaking builds appear. If a plot contains inappropriate builds that violate the Hypixel Rules, Hypixel may reset the Free Build and issue a punishment to the owner, often starting with a 7-day ban for a first offense.

What changes when a Free Build is terminated

When a Free Build is terminated, the plot gets reset and the house name may also reset. It has also been reported that newer ban or termination behavior may automatically set the house to Private. If this happens, do not panic. Your house is not deleted, and you should still be able to return to it after the punishment ends.

The plot reset still works similarly to how it did before. Builds are cleared, and the theme is usually changed. In many cases, the plot resets back to the Default Theme. If the plot was already using the Default Theme, the housing may instead be set to another theme, such as a Snow-type theme.

  • Plot reset: builds are cleared.
  • House name reset: the title may return to a default state.
  • Theme change: the house may switch back to the Default Theme, or to another theme such as Snow if it was already on Default.
  • Possible privacy change: it has been reported that the house may now be set to Private automatically after this type of ban or termination.
  • Your house is not deleted: if the house is set to Private, it usually means access was restricted, not that the housing was removed from your account.

The biggest danger: offline building while you are banned

Even if the house is set to Private, owners should still review their permissions when they return. If offline building is enabled for any role and access becomes possible again, that role may be able to build while the owner is unable to moderate. This is risky because trolls may build rule-breaking content, which can lead to repeated punishment.

To reduce this risk, it is highly recommended that you use temporary containment while you are banned, then remove it once you return and can moderate normally again.

If you host again, termination time periods for repeat offenses

Additionally, if the Free Build owner attempts to host again, the Free Build may be terminated for the following time periods:

Offense Termination time period
First offense7 days
Second offense14 days
Third offense30 days, one month
Fourth offense90 days, three months
Fifth offense180 days, six months
Sixth offense365 days, twelve months, one year

How the ban order resets

The only way to reset this ban order is to lower your ban level, which can only be done by waiting 180 days, or six months, for a Medium Ban Level, and 365 days, or one year, for a High Ban Level.

How to prevent termination

For owners

  • Actively moderate your plot: check builds regularly, not only when something goes wrong.
  • Use trusted moderators: hire trusted community leaders as moderators if you need help.
  • Be strict about permissions: especially roles that can build while you are offline.
  • Have a containment plan: know who can temporarily block access if you get banned.

For guests

Make sure you do not build anything in a Free Build owner's house that breaks Hypixel's rules or Housing content policies. This includes hateful content, threats, harassment, inappropriate builds, real-world sensitive topics, political content, explicit content, copyright violations, disallowed automation, or attempts to manipulate gameplay unfairly.

For more information, review Hypixel's Housing Content Rules.

Community enforcement and blacklists

Free Build guests who violate these rules may face a permanent ban from individual Free Builds. Many community networks, such as CTG's Free Build Network, maintain internal blacklists to prevent rule-breaking users from joining other partner plots. This helps improve safety, since Hypixel holds Free Build owners responsible for content built on their plots.
